One hundred people from all over India representing all the fifteen BSI Auxiliaries gathered at the Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission, Kedgaon, Pune, Maharashtra for the National Women Leaders’ Conference held from the 11th to the 15th of October 2012. This Conference was organized by the Resource Mobilisation and Ministry Department of the Bible Society of India with the theme “Applying God’s Word in the World”.

The Conference commenced with the worship service held on the 11th October 2012 at the Mukti church.  In his inaugural address, Rev. Dr. Mani Chacko, General Secretary, BSI, encouraged the participants to look at the way of Affirmation, Advocacy and Action, reflecting upon the theme of the Conference, to be involved in Scripture Engagement.

In her keynote address, Dr. Miss E. Leelavathi Manasseh, Director, Resource Mobilisation and Ministry, affirmed the uniqueness of the living Word of God, the Lord Jesus Christ and the revealed Word of God, the Holy Bible. “Bible and Mission of God”, a paper by Dr. Mrs. Leela Chandra Bose, Member, BSI Executive Committee, was used to situate discussions on the role played by Mary Jones in her generation and what the participants can do in this generation through the BSI. Mrs. Starla Luke, the Second Vice President of the BSI, gave an inspiring message on “What women can do for the Cause of God’s Word”. Mrs. Grace Mathews, Deputy Chairperson of Lausanne Movement worldwide, shared her testimony and urged the participants to pray for world evangelisation.

The morning and evening prayer time focussed on the sub theme dedicated for each day, namely, “Word in Action – Live in Christ”, “Word in Action – Shine as Lights in the Word”, and “Word in Action – Offer People the Message of Life”. The guided tour led by Rev. Barnabas Goodae, to Mukti campuses was a time of reflection on how God was able to use a widow to achieve great things for God during a period when life was not easy to live. The Cultural Night coordinated by Miss Ella Das, member, BSI Executive Committee, was a time of appreciating the different cultures of our country. Sessions on “How to Interpret and apply God’s Word in the World” and “How to Mobilise Resources for the Bible work” were made interesting and meaningful through presentations, sharing and discussions.

The Holy Communion Service held towards the concluding hours of the Conference was a time of gratitude to God for the fellowship they could have around the Lord’s Table, although they spoke different languages and belonged to various church denominations and cultures.
